Hand Painted Kitchens
The kitchen is often considered the heart of a home—a place where meals are created and consumed every day and space where guests tend to gather during parties or other get-togethers. Simply changing the colour of your units and adding different handles creates a completely new look, with very effective results.
The paint we use for painted kitchens needs to be durable enough to accommodate these special conditions.
We generally use oil-based paint on kitchens with BIN Zinzeer shellac primer. Recently some of our clients have been opting for Autentico chalk paint on their painted kitchens, giving that country kitchens look. It is available in some great colours and can be waxed and varnished for extra durability.
When painting kitchens, we normally pick up the kitchen cabinet doors and drawers after removing the hinges and the hardware unless you prefer an in-home painting service.
The doors and drawers are then washed with tsp and rinsed carefully to remove any grease. This is a very important part of the job.
At this point, any holes or damage to the doors and drawer fronts will be filed and sanded. Then the doors and drawers are primed and then sanded and then they are painted with 3 additional thin coats of paint. They are sanded between each coat of paint for an exceptionally smooth finish.
This process takes almost 2 weeks from start to finish. When the doors and drawers are finished and dry, they are delivered back to your home and re-installed any framework that cannot be taken off-site will be painted. Paint does take 2 or 3 weeks to cure completely Customers should be aware that the newly painted doors and drawers should be handled carefully.
Getting your kitchen units painted is a great way to update, giving you a new look without having to take spend as much as replacing it.
At present we are seeing some amazing results by spraying our kitchens in a tinted waterborne lacquer.
Hand Painted Furniture
If you have an old piece of furniture that’s seen better days getting it painted will give a new lease of life, different pieces of furniture in the same room can be painted the same and matched to your colour scheme.
Hand-painted furniture is a really effective way to refurbish without the cost.
The older pieces of furniture, in my opinion, are better made, have more character & if looked after will last many years.
When we strip pieces and then repaint them it really does bring it back to life. Many of the details that were lost jump back out again.
There are many different techniques you can use on furniture. It can be painted to look old and the paint aged and distressed, shabby chic or sprayed in gloss or lacquer for a faultless finish.
Paint effects can also be used such as painted marbled tops or gilt detailing.
We work closely with our clients to produce a look unique to them.
